Maternity Activewear for the Way You Actually Move

Staying active through pregnancy is rarely a training programme. It is walking, pilates, a stretch class, chasing a toddler, and the long stretch of the day where you just want to be comfortable. This range is built for that, not for a personal best.

There are 29 styles here across maternity leggings, bike shorts, sweatpants, tracksuit sets, gym tanks and cotton tees, in sizes XS to 3XL. Colours run mostly to black, grey, brown, beige, white, blue and purple, so pieces work together rather than needing to be styled around.

What Should Maternity Activewear Actually Do?

Three things. It has to sit comfortably against a bump without a waistband that rolls or digs in. It has to stretch through movement without going see-through when you bend. And it has to still fit in eight weeks, which is the part most regular activewear fails at.

Selected pieces here are cut in bamboo and bamboo cotton blends, chosen because they are soft and breathable, which counts in an Australian summer. Others are in cotton, which is the practical everyday choice. Check each product description for the fabric, since the range mixes them deliberately.

Building an Active Maternity Wardrobe

Most mums end up with a small rotation rather than one hero piece:

  • Leggings: full length and knee length, the workhorse of the whole wardrobe. Ours sit alongside the full maternity leggings range.
  • Bike shorts: the warm weather answer, and the piece that carries on under dresses and skirts once the workout is done.
  • Tanks and tees: gym tanks and relaxed cotton tees that layer, breathe, and do not cling to a bump.
  • Sweatpants and tracksuit sets: wide leg sweats and matching sets for the walk, the school run and the rest of the day. See maternity sweats and tracksuits for more.
  • Layers: something to throw over the top when you finish and immediately get cold.

Almost everything here keeps working postpartum, which is where activewear earns its money. Stretch fits and soft waistbands suit a recovering body far better than pre-pregnancy gear does. Australian orders over $150 ship free, with free returns over $150.

Maternity Activewear FAQs

Do I really need maternity-specific activewear?

Regular leggings can work in the first trimester, but most women find the waistband becomes the problem well before the bump does. Maternity cuts move the waistband to where it does not press, which is the difference between wearing something and putting up with it.

Over-bump or under-bump?

It is genuinely personal, and many mums switch as pregnancy progresses. Over-bump styles hold everything in place and do not slip during movement; under-bump styles suit those who find anything across the bump uncomfortable. Trying both is the only reliable way to know.

Is it safe to exercise while pregnant?

For most women with an uncomplicated pregnancy, staying active is encouraged, though what is appropriate varies enormously. Talk to your GP, midwife or a women's health physio about what suits your pregnancy, particularly if you are new to exercise or planning anything high impact.

Will these pieces still fit after the birth?

Most of them, yes, and that is largely why they are worth buying. Stretch fits, soft waistbands and relaxed cuts suit a postpartum body, and several tees here have nursing access built in. Our postnatal range covers the rest.
