Getting a good night’s sleep can be challenging when you’ve got another human kicking around inside you – particularly if they love to be active when you’re trying to rest, as is often the case!

The last thing you want is pyjamas that are tight, uncomfortable, sweaty or irritating to add to your sleep challenges.

It’s important to choose sleepwear that feels good when you put it on and that will accomodate your changing shape.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Fabric – Pyjamas made from cotton are a good option as the fabric is breathable and generally won’t irritate your skin. Silk is also a good option as it keeps you warm when you’re cold and cool when you’re hot, however, it’s slippery to sleep in, can be expensive and problematic to wash.
  2. Comfort – Look for pyjamas that aren’t too restrictive. Avoid  anything too tight or with elastic that digs in. Shorts or pants that have an elastic drawstring are great as they allow you to adjust the size as your belly grows. Night dresses are also good as they generally fit like an oversized t-shirt allowing plenty of room for your bump to grow.
  3. Breastfeeding – It’s a good idea to look for something that you can nurse in once bub has arrived. Look for tops that have buttons or nursing access. Otherwise, a nightie with a crossover style top or a night dress with buttons is ideal.
  4. Style – It’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll be in your pyjamas more than usual when your newborn arrives as the distinction between night and day can become quite blurred. Pick pyjamas that are fun, stylish and cute – that way when visitors pop round they’ll have no idea you haven’t got dressed yet!
